Information for Teens
California law requires anyone under 18 years of age to attend 30 hours of classroom training (Driver Education) to obtain a provisional permit, and 6 hours of behind the wheel training (Driver Training) to obtain a provisional license.
Steps to obtain a Provisional Permit- Complete Drivers Education
- Enroll in Driver Training
- Pass DMV written test
- Complete Driver Training
- Complete 50 hours of supervised driving practice with a parent/guardian (10 hours must be night driving)
- Wait at least 6 months after receiving Provisional Permit before taking drive test
- Pass DMV drive test
